Walking with Tech Leaders: Personal Takeaways on Leadership (Part 1)
2025 marks a pretty big year for me. Not only do I turn 40 (!!), but it also marks 20 years (!!!!!) of being in the tech industry. Naturally, a milestone like this makes one pause and reflect on the journey that has brought one here. So, I decided to dust off this blog and start writing again.
For a while now, I’ve been thinking about writing a blog summarising what I’ve learned from the incredible tech leaders I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to worked for & with (in my ongoing attempts to become one myself). And what better time to share these reflections than this year?
As I started jotting down ideas, I realised just how lucky I’ve been to work with and be inspired by so many exceptional leaders throughout my career. The list grew quickly, and to celebrate my 20th year in the industry, I thought: why not aim for a fitting list of 20? To keep things fairly digestible though, I’ve split it into two posts.
So here’s to 2025 — and the first instalment: 10 lessons learned from the great leaders I’ve had the honour of learning from.
TL/DR — My Part 1 List: A Summary
- Leaders are Great Connectors.
- Leaders Delegate.
- Leaders “get you out of the trenches” to become a good leader.
- Leaders know the importance of having a 2IC or a Deputy.
- Leaders are Good Story Tellers.
